WebTwo-dimensional gel electrophoresis (2DGel) is a successful method used for the detection and analysis of proteins. It has been designed as a combination of the 2DGel, IEF and SDS-PAGE methods, and is used in the analysis of complex protein mixtures. WebThe method works by fixing the proteins in the gel and then oxidizing the sugar residues with sodium meta-periodate. The resulting aldehyde groups can then be reacted with an amine-containing dye. In older literature, this method is known as the periodate acid–Schiff (PAS) technique. A subsequent reduction step stabilizes the dye–protein bond.
